This project focuses on revitalizing a historic structure in Detroit's Corktown neighborhood to suit the contemporary landscape. With Corktown experiencing significant growth due to recent developments like Ford Motor Company's presence, job opportunities are on the rise, benefitting both residents and the expanding workforce. In response to this growing population, the project introduces a hair and nail salon targeting Millennials, leveraging their role in population growth. The design aesthetic follows a Scandinavian style, characterized by minimalism, bright splashes of color, and a blend of textures and soft tones that create a modern yet warm and welcoming atmosphere. A standout design element is the suspended acoustic features with wooden textures, serving dual purposes of enhancing the visual appeal while effectively absorbing sound and optimizing the building's vertical space. By repurposing this space into a contemporary salon, the project not only caters to the community's needs but also honors the area's heritage while infusing it with modernity and functionality.
